The kids are out of school for the summer and many parents are looking for ways to keep them occupied. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center gives families an opportunity to learn what people around the world face on a daily basis.

"Whatever the conditions of people's lives, wherever they live, however they live, they share the same hopes, the same dreams as you and I," Melinda Gates said.

Millions around the world do not have access to clean drinking water and billions do not have safe sanitation facilities.

The visitor center is trying to educate people in the Northwest about the challenges many face and inspire them to make positive change. Families can enjoy free guided tours, interactive exhibits, digital games, educational opportunities, and the "Share Your Cause Tree."

The Visitor Center also holds "Family Days" that offer fun activities for families geared toward making a difference and understanding how they can give back to their community.

"The whole day is about giving kids tangible examples and activities of how they can get engaged," said Patrick McMahon, Education and Experience Coordinator.

The next Family Day, "Kids Can," is on September 28th, 2013 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
