A community is remembering the life of a popular Capitol Hill bartender. Twenty-nine-year-old Stefvin Caswell was hit and killed by a truck while on his skateboard Thursday night in Shoreline.

“It’s a gut punch because it’s losing a sibling,” said Katie Benjamin, a close friend.

Friends say Caswell was a friend, a confidant and a person that could always make you smile.

“He knew how to be the friend that you needed,” said Laara Garcia, a close friend.

Caswell was a bartender at Osteria La Spiga. The Italian restaurant was closed for business Sunday, instead holding an open benefit with all money going towards funeral expenses.

Many shared stories about what made the bartender special, toasting after each person spoke.  Friends say Caswell’s loss is a reminder that life is short.

“Hold tight to the ones you love, make sure you tell them how important they are,” said Benjamin.
