Seattle columnist and gay rights activist Dan Savage and his partner, Terry Miller, were among the first same-sex couples to obtain a marriage license in Washington state Thursday.
“I’m feeling like a citizen and it feels good,” said Savage. “Hopefully soon, gay, lesbian, bi and trans people will also be citizens of the entire United States and not just nine of the United States.”
Savage and Miller were part of a special midnight ceremony in Seattle when King County Executive Dow Constantine signed the first licenses for same-sex couples.
“We’re going to get married Sunday at City Hall with 141 other couples,” said Savage.
