Seattle citizens have spoken out against a plan to give police surveillance drones.
That was clear during this City Council Technology Committee meeting. The first 11 speakers voiced their opposition and concern about drones, mostly for privacy reasons.
"We see these drones even though they're really limited we see drones sort of as a gateway drug to bigtime surveillance,” said one person.
The police say they would have restrictions on the drones like we see here. Officers would only use them only to observe large crime scenes, traffic collisions, hazardous materials disaster, or search and rescue responses. No audio would be collected by the drones.
