SEATTLE – Seattle Police and King County Sheriff’s deputies arrested dozens of people suspected of selling drugs on the street in downtown Seattle.
Seattle Police said the operation was in response to community concerns about open-air drug dealing, especially in the Pike Street – Pine Street corridor.
For eight days in April, undercover officers bought drugs from street dealers. While the dealers were not immediately arrested, detectives were using the encounters to build cases against the dealers.
Officers began rounding up suspects June 1 and 2, arresting a total of 38 people. Another 13 suspects are still at large.
"The successful round up and arrest of known drug dealers will help support a safer downtown environment for Seattle residents and visitors. I commend our police department on the success of this operation and thank the Sheriff's Office for their support." said Mayor Mike McGinn in a press release.
