In a Wednesday morning Seattle City Council discussion about selling the money-losing Pacific Place Garage, it was revealed that there may have been mismanagement of funds or theft of nearly $30,000 a month.
"It could be a theft, but it is not something we can prove yet," said the city’s director of Financial and Administrative Services, Fred Podesta.
Under the former management company, the garage sold 133 monthly passes, but 100 additional passes were used.
Podesta told the council he did not know how long it was going on.
The cards were made inactive and new cards were assigned.
After an audit of the problem, Podesta said the city asked Seattle police to investigate.
"We will work with the police to investigate one account at a time to find out where did the money go," he said.
