RENTON -- The FAA says a small cargo plane reported a severe vibration shortly after leaving Boeing Field Wednesday morning. The plane turned around and came back to land. During the short flight, two panels fell off the plane. One landed on Interstate 405 in Renton, the other at an intersection about a hundred feet away.
Boeing engineer Kurtis Willden takes 405 every day but decided to hop off because of traffic. When he rounded a corner he saw "two things that looked like cardboard floating down." One of them just happened to land right in front of his car at the intersection of Oakesdale and Grady Way when one of the panels landed. "It just plopped down in front of me."
Willden pulled over, wiped off the exhaust debris and saw that the plane panel was made in 1965. He then took it to Tukwila Police. "They took a picture of it. I had to get one so my buddies would believe me." Both panels are now with the FAA, which is investigating.
