An accident on northbound Interstate 405 near Southcenter has been cleared, but commute times were still affected. At one point, all three lanes were blocked.

Just before 4:45 p.m., the travel time from Tukwila to Bellevue was 53 minutes, a trip that usually takes 22 minutes, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The backup reached more than six miles, stretching back to Interstate 5. WSDOT engineers said there are no good alternate routes, but drivers should take Interstate 5 if possible.

The travel time from Renton to Bellevue was almost an hour, a route that averages 15 minutes.

Originally the accident on I-405 at Sunset only blocked two lanes.
