SEATTLE  -- Business groups are taking their complaints over Seattle's new sick leave policy to Olympia.

The law requires businesses with at least five employees working in the city to provide at least five paid sick days a year. Larger employers are required to provide more sick time.

The Seattle Times reports Republican lawmakers have proposed two bills to repeal or weaken Seattle's ordinance. Sponsors say the bills come out of complaints from the business groups that opposed the new Seattle law.

Seattle, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. are the only cities requiring paid sick leave for most workers, after Wisconsin lawmakers overturned a similar law in Milwaukee last summer.

The bills are scheduled for a Senate hearing on Wednesday.
