A man who was rescued by Lacey firefighters from a burning house died just a few hours later at the hospital Tuesday morning.

A fire broke out at 2:00 a.m. at a house on the 1200 block of Sleater Kinney Road in Lacey.

Firefighters say two people, a father and son, were in the home at the time of the fire. The son, a man in his 20s, made it out safely, but the father, a man in his 50s, was trapped inside.

Crews rescued the father and he was taken to St. Peter's Hospital. He later passed away.

His son was treated for smoke inhalation.

The home was heavily damaged by smoke, flames and water. Investigators are working on finding out the cause.
