Washington State Fish & Wildlife investigators are conducting a necropsy on a Steller sea lion found in the Nisqually Delta.
Investigators said they have reason to believe the sea lion was shot but are waiting for the necropsy results. If the animal was shot, the case will be turned over to NOAA enforcement agents who are still investigating the shootings of several other sea lions in and around the Nisqually Delta over the last few years.
All sea lions are protected under the Federal Marine Mammal Protection Act. Killing a Steller is even more serious because they are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
