The Capitol Building in Olympia was evacuated Monday after police found a suspicous bag.

It was found on the state seal, which is located in a roped-off area inside the Capitol rotunda, according to Washington State Patrol spokesman Bob Calkins.

Inside the bag, troopers found papers and writings. Calkins could not say what the writings were about, just that they were "benign."

The bag was removed by the WSP Bomb Squad by noon. A bomb squad technician dressed in a full protective suit emerged from the building carrying a cloth shopping bag.

The only description of the suspect believed to have left the bag behind is that it was a dark-haired female.

Calkins said mostly legislative staff, not lawmakers, were in the building at the time of the evacuation.

No additional threats have been reported.
