A 13-year-old Tumwater boy underwent emergency surgery after being hit by a pickup driven by a man who police say may have been under the influence.
It happened Wednesday around 8:45 p.m. on Linderson Way at Dennis Street SW in Tumwater.
Police said there were reports that the boy was lying in the road before he was hit by the 2007 GMC pickup, although it’s not clear why he was there.
The driver, a 51-year-old Tumwater man, allegedly failed a series of field sobriety tests. It’s believed he was under the influence of an unknown substance. He was booked into the Thurston County Jail for vehicular assault.
The boy was taken to St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for surgery, then transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
