OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A 13-year-old boy who is accused of shooting and killing his father remains jailed in juvenile detention Monday.
Investigators said they do not know why the boy shot and killed his father, identified as Jimmie R. Asher Jr., on Sunday night. The shooting happened at a home in Olympia in the 10000 block of Delphi Road Southwest.
Lt. Greg Elwin with the Thurston County Sheriff's Office called the case a “why done it.”
Around 11 p.m. Sunday, a woman called 911 to say her 39-year-old husband was injured and bleeding. When paramedics arrived they realized the man had been shot in his sleep and called police.
Detectives talked to Asher’s 13-year-old son. They said he changed his story multiple times, and eventually they developed probable cause to arrest him on second degree murder charges.
The boy is an eighth grader at Tumwater Middle School. He did not have any discipline problems at the school, according to a school district spokesperson.
Police said they have never been to the home for any family fights, and the boy has not been in trouble with the law before.
The boy was booked into juvenile detention.
