AUBURN, Wash. – A Kent police officer was killed early Thursday morning in a single car crash in Auburn.
Officer Rob McCuistion died after his car went off Kersey Way Southwest and hit a tree at about 12:20 a.m. It's not known how much of a factor weather played.
McCuistion, 53, spent his entire 13-year career with the Kent Police Department.
"A good man, good friend. A big, tragic loss for our department," said Police Chief Ken Thomas.
McCuistion's wife is a sergeant at the city jail, so employees across the city are feeling grief.
"It's like going through shock," said Mayor Suzette Cooke. "It's that whole approach … 'No, I'm not hearing this right. No, it didn't happen.' It did."
McCuistion was on his way home from a business he owns in Puyallup.
