Two motorcyclists have died in separate traffic accidents.

In Kent, a 56-year-old man died early Wednesday morning after the motorcycle he was driving was struck by a car. Efforts to stabilize the man's injuries at the scene were unsuccessful.

According to the Kent Police Department, preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the 1986 Nissan sports car crossed the center line of SE 223 Drive at the same time a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle was approaching from the opposite direction. The Nissan struck the motorcycle, ejecting the rider and propelling the motorcycle backward. The bike came to rest in the front yard of a neighboring residence.

"Information collected to this point suggests that the passenger car was being driven well in excess of the posted 25 mile per hour speed limit," said Assistant Police Chief Pat Lowery.

On Tuesday night a car collided with a motorcyle on SR-20 at Fidalgo Bay Road in Anacortes. The rider was ultimately flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died of his injuries on Wednesday morning.

The Washington State Patrol said the 23-year-old male was riding his motorcycle on SR-20 when he was struck by a white Lincoln passenger car as he slowed for another collision (involving a car and a deer) that blocking the road ahead of him.

The car that struck the motorcyclist left the scene. WSP was able to locate the driver later because the car's license plate fell off in the collision. The woman driving the car was booked into the Skagit County jail for hit and run.
