AUBURN, Wash. -- Students at Thomas Jefferson High School in Auburn walked out of class Friday in protest of the district's new grading system.
SkyKING flew over the walk-out Friday afternoon where a handful of students stood on the edge of campus, holding signs that read, "Occupy TJ," "Honk for Change," and "Eff the System." One showed the words "Grading System" crossed out.
Federal Way administrators estimated about 30-40 students took part in the demonstration. No students were suspended.
The new system adopted by the Federal Way School District is called standards-based grading, in which letter grades are based more on assessments and educational course standards. Click here for Federal Way's explanation of the standards-based grade system.
