Former King County Sheriff's Department spokesman John Urquhart plans to make a big announcement on Tuesday morning -- that he will run for King County Sheriff.
Former Sheriff Sue Rahr stepped down at the end of March to become the director of the state criminal justice training commission. The county council appointed Rahr's deputy, Steve Strachan, to the job until an election is held later this year.
Rahr's term was not set to expire until the end of 2013. The winning candidate in the election this year will fill the remaining year of the term, with a full, four-year term on the ballot again in Nov. 2013.
Urquhart, who retired last fall, told KING 5 News's Lori Matsukawa in March that he would make a decision before May 15 on whether to run.
