Drivers, plan for major closures on I-5 this weekend in Federal Way.
The first of three major weekend-long closure begin this weekend as road crews set girders across Insterstate 5 to improve the route between State Route 18 and Interstate 5.
Crews will close all southbound I-5 lanes on Friday and Saturday nights. Crews will begin closing lanes at 9 p.m. with all lanes closing by 11 p.m. Lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. the next morning. The closure will affect drivers going on southbound I-5 and westbound SR 18.
A detour is nearly six miles and backup on I-5 are expected to reach five miles. WSDOT advises travelers to add an extra 30 minutes to their trip.
