Eli Thomas Godbolt, a teacher at Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way, is under investigation for allegedly having sex with a student.
Federal Way Police said that a 17-year-old female student told her mother that she had sexual relations with the 33-year-old teacher over the past two years. Police said Godbolt and the student did not have sex on school property.
According to probable cause documents, physical evidence was recovered at the girl's home.
Godbolt was arrested Monday at his home for investigation of rape and booked into the King County Regional Justice Center in Kent. He appeared in court Tuesday and was released on his own recognizance.
"I don't have anything to say. I don't have my lawyer here," he told KING 5 News.
Godbolt is a married father of three and also an aspiring novelist. He released a promotional video to raise money for his latest work.
The police investigation is ongoing and formal charges are expected to be filed over the next week or two. Godbolt has been put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. He has been teaching in the district since 2007.
The 17-year-old student's status is unclear.
"We're just going to support her and her family to get her through this long recovery period that it will be," said Cathy Schrock, Federal Way Police Department.
Police say it's very important for anyone who knows information about the case to come forward, especially if they know of additional victims.
