FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – A Federal Way Police officer shot a man Friday afternoon, killing him, after witnessing a drug deal. One suspect also involved remains at large.
According to Federal Way Police spokesperson Cathy Schrock, a female police officer stopped at a strip mall at Southwest 312th Street and Dash Point Road around 1:00 p.m.
It was there, Schrock said, the officer saw the drug deal occur in a car. The officer ordered the two suspects in the car to stop and show their hands.
Police said the driver of the car reached for a weapon, and the officer opened fire, shooting the passenger. The driver was able to drive the vehicle and get away.
The car was found a short distance away, at the Quail Run Apartments at 3318 Southwest 318th Place. The passenger was found dead at the scene, however the driver of the car was gone.
The suspect is only described as a white male in his 20's.
Auburn Police will conduct the investigation into the incident.
During the incident, Decatur High School, Lakota Middle School and Adelaide and Twin Lakes Elementary schools were placed in lockdown as a precaution. The school district says students and staff are safe. The lockdowns were lifted around 2:20 p.m.
