A woman died in a three-car crash in Federal Way early Friday, hit head-on by a driver suspected of being under the influence.

A female suspect was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide and suspicion of DUI. Police said she had her 4-year-old son in the car with her at the time of the crash.

The suspect, a 32-year-old woman, was behind the wheel of a Honda S2000, which police said crossed the center line of Pacific Highway South around 12:30 a.m.

It hit an oncoming Honda Civic head-on, causing it to go airborne, detectives said.

The Civic landed sideways on the road and was hit again in the driver-side door by an oncoming southbound Honda Accord.

The driver of the Civic, only identified as a 48-year-old woman, died in the crash.

The driver of the Accord sustained minor injuries.

The suspect currently has a suspended drivers license, but no prior DUI convictions. She and her 4-year-old son were taken to Harborview Medical Center with minor injuries.

Police said the S2000 did not have its lights on at the time of the crash.

The crash closed Pacific Highway South for almost six hours. It reopened by 6:30 a.m.
