SEATTLE – The man accused of kidnapping, raping and sexually assaulting an 8-year-old Federal Way girl has been ordered held on $1 million bail.
Benjamin Trinh, 28, appeared in King County Superior Court Wednesday afternoon. Formal charges have not yet been filed.
Trinh is accused of taking the girl from a playground next to Olympic View Elementary School in Federal Way Monday night. Her abduction triggered a statewide Amber Alert.
A clerk at the Federal Way Target saw the girl's picture after the alert was issued and called 911. A check of surveillance video and credit card receipts indicated Trinh had been there, according to probable cause documents.
The girl arrived back home, alone, about three hours later. Police said she denied anything happened.
Trinh was arrested at his home in Tacoma Tuesday. According to probable cause documents, Trinh admitted to police that he took the girl to his home, sexually assaulted her and took photos.
Police said Trinh had been spotted the past few days around the playground, taking pictures of children.
