Naval Station Everett and the state Ecology Department will be holding separate exercises in Western Washington on Wednesday.

In Everett, the Navy will conduct harbor security drills around the base from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24th and Thursday, October 25th.

There will be a 500-yard safety zone in effect and a broadcast notice to mariners before and during the drill.

Anyone spotting oil skimming vessels, containment boom and other response equipment on the west side of Blake Island in Puget Sound Wednesday Oct. 24 shouldn't be alarmed.

The Washington Department of Ecology is testing the ability of six area oil companies to mount a rapid, aggressive and well-coordinated response to a major oil spill in central Puget Sound.

No oil will be discharged during the drill.
