Everett Police say a man was arrested after a shooting at the Macy's in the Everett Mall on Tuesday afternoon.
Police say Macy's loss prevention employees confronted a shoplifter.
"They said, 'Did you buy those clothes?'" said witness Sue Martinez, who was shopping for shoes. "And he's like, 'I didn't do anything.' And they tried to get a receipt from him and he wouldn't show it to them. And then he tried to run away."
Security quickly got the man on the ground, Martinez said. It turned out the suspect had a gun. One shot was fired during the struggle, police said. No one was hit.
"We just all looked at each other and we were like, everybody out," Martinez said. "We all just dropped whatever we had in our hand and ran out of the store."
Macy's employees kept the suspect down until police arrived and arrested him.
Police blocked off the Macy's entrance for the investigation Tuesday night.
Mall officials said Macy's was closed for the evening but would be open for normal business hours on Wednesday. The rest of the mall remained open for business Tuesday night.
The mall issued a statement, saying "Shopper and mall employee safety is always our primary concern."
