An Everett hair salon that shares a name with a popular brand of vodka is being told to come up with a new moniker or face legal action.

Absolut Hair Salon and Makeup has been in business for 15 years. But salon owner Jessee Skittrall says the maker of Absolut Vodka has told him to change the name immediately.

The Absolut brand, which notably is missing an “e," has been deemed “famous” in U.S. federal court, according to Skitrall. Skittrall says he faces prosecution for trademark infringement and more if he doesn’t come up with a new name. He says he cannot find any law firms to help him fight back.

Skittrall says changing the name won't be easy for a business as small as his. He said even adding an “e” to the end of the name will cost him an estimated $20,000.

"It's a bullying tactic. I think it's stupid,” said Skittrall. “A company my size. How the hell are we supposed to be able to fight something like this? I have to cave. I don't get a choice.”

Skittrall says he bought the business four years ago and it came with the name.

Lawyers for Absolut Vodka could not immediately be reached for comment.
