EVERETT, Wash. -- The Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships, a major prelude to the Olympic Games in London, gets underway Thursday with media day.
Seventeen countries including the United States will compete at the Comcast Arena. The event includes both artistic and rhythmic gymnastics as well as trampoline.
The U.S. women’s artistic gymnastics team will be represented by seniors Jordyn Wieber, Gabrielle Douglas and Kyla Ross and juniors Amelia Hundley, Katelyn Ohashi and Lexi Preissman. The men’s team consists of seniors Chris Brooks, Jake Dalton and Sam Mikulak and juniors Marvin Kimble, Sean Melton and Akash Modi.
2004 Olympic Women’s All-Around gold medalist Carly Patterson is also in town to help promote the event. Patterson will be at Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood at 4:30 – 6 p.m. to sign autographs and meet fans. That will be followed by a 7 p.m. appearance at the Imagine Children’s Museum. On Friday, Patterson will be at the Everett YMCA at 2730 Rockefeller Avenue for a morning fitness workout that anyone can join.
