NEAR EVERETT, Wash. – A man who allegedly was trying to break into a boat is dead after getting into a confrontation with the owner.

It happened just before 2:00 p.m. in the 400 block of 117th Street Southeast in South Everett.

The boat was parked in a driveway when the homeowner spotted a man trying to break into the boat, possibly to steal the motor, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

The 67-year-old owner called police. While waiting for them to show up, he got into a scuffle with the suspect, in his 20's, and held him down.

When deputies arrived, the suspect was on the ground and not breathing. Deputies were unable to revive him. There were no obvious signs of trauma, deputies said.

No arrests have been made.

The homeowner did not appear to be injured, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
