PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- At a Port Orchard junior high school, students are getting praise for letting adults know a boy brought a gun to class.
John Sedgwick Junior High School has adopted Rachel's Challenge, the program that helps students and teachers facilitate better communication, understanding and kindness among each other.
Both teachers and students say it seems to be working.
"It seems a lot more safe because everyone tries to be friends with people," said Jolene Kvinsland.
"We try to be as approachable as possible," said school counselor Ted Fellin.
The 15-year-old who brought the gun to school is in custody in the Kitsap County juvenile hall.
