BREMERTON, Wash. -- A state board denied parole for a man who has spent 33 years in prison for his murder conviction in the 1978 shooting death of a Kitsap County sheriff's Deputy Dennis Allred.

The Kitsap Sun reports his daughter, Gina Vinecourt, collected nearly 1,700 signatures opposing the release of Nedley Norman and presented them at a meeting in July with parole board members.

The 55-year-old Norman will be eligible for his next parole hearing in four years. Board members suggested he take prison classes in victim empathy and violence alternatives.
