SILVERDALE, Wash. – Family and friends – as well as weather enthusiasts around the Puget Sound area - are mourning the loss of amateur meteorologist and astronomer, Dr. Dale Ireland.

Ireland, a Silverdale dentist, died Wednesday, the Kitsap Sun reports.

Ireland’s time lapse videos and photographs have been shared on the air by KING 5’s meteorologists and on KING5.com.

One of the most infamous was the 2010 video of the Ichiro bobblehead measuring snowfall.

KING 5 Meteorologist Jeff Renner said everyone at KING appreciated his generosity in sharing his technical and artistic talent in capturing the natural world around him.

“We are richer for Dale and his willingness to share his passion for photography and the beauty of the atmosphere and space. I miss him, and extend my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues,” said Renner.
