A 30-foot boat caught fire early Thursday morning near Bainbridge Island.
The fire started around 6:30 a.m. while the boat was near the Agate Pass Bridge, the bridge that connects Bainbridge to the Kitsap Peninsula.
A man and his dog were the only passengers on board at the time. The man was able to escape safely, but it is believed the dog died.
According to Kitsap Fire officials, the driver of the boat set out from Brownsville Marina this morning, along with a friend in another boat.
When the fire started, the other boat pulled up alongside to help rescue the man and his dog. However, they were unable to reach the dog.
Fire crews extinguished what remained of the boat. It burned to the water line, but did not sink.
