A Washington state trooper is credited with saving a seagull with a broken wing from getting hit by traffic on Interstate 5 in Blaine.
Trooper Bart Maupin was responding to a report of a large bird in the road about a quarter-mile south of the Canadian Border on July 30. He spotted the injured bird sitting on the centerline of the freeway.
Maupin put the bird in his patrol car and took it to the Northwest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Deming.
Before they got to the center, Maupin had to take a side trip to help another trooper searching for a fleeing driver. The suspect was caught.
It’s not clear how long it will take the bird’s wing to mend.
