SEATTLE - A 30-year-old Bellevue man was able to escape a fire in his home at the 300 block of 145 Place NE because his smoke detector sounded. He was sleeping in the upstairs bedroom of his two-story home when the smoke alarm went off.

He found smoke coming from the downstairs living room area. He got out of the home and went for help.

Within 6 minutes, Bellevue firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the first and second stories of the house. Firefighters from Bellevue and Redmond were able to control the fire within 20 minutes.

KING 5 viewer Matt Hall took video of the fire - flames are seen shooting from the home.

The resident of the home bought the house two months ago and has homeowner’s insurance.

Fire investigators are working to determine the fire’s origin and cause. The home is beyond repair with a damage estimate of $300,000.
