SEATTLE -- President Obama's fundraising trip to the Seattle area last month didn't include any public events, but local law-enforcement agencies still paid nearly $100,000 in overtime costs to protect him.

Those dollars won't be reimbursed, but it could have been much higher. The Washington State Patrol saved some money by adjusting its schedules and shifting troopers from other duties to ride in the presidential motorcade.

The Seattle Times reports the largest overtime tab came from the Bellevue Police Department. That agency paid $28,817 extra to some 60 officers who secured the Hilton Bellevue Hotel, where the president spent the night.

Officials note that the costs are not unique and all presidential visits require intense security and similar overtime costs.
