BELLEVUE, Wash. - Bellevue police said they recovered hundreds of fraudulent documents from a prolific identity thief.
On July 3rd, a resident at the Hidden Creek Condos in the 800 block of 126th Place NE noticed two construction signs on a neighbor's patio. The resident contacted road crews about the signs and road crews contacted police.
When a patrol officer arrived there was a verbal altercation already happening inside the condo, according to police. More officers responded, and a search warrant was served. Police said several hundred forged checks were found. There were reportedly 39 false Washington ID cards and drivers' licenses, 67 fraudulent credit cards, 28 various false government ID cards, and 7 false social security cards.
"This is a substantial, significant fraud case," said Lt. Lisa Patricelli of Bellevue police. "It appears most of the victims in this case had their identities stolen after their mail was stolen or their cars were broken into by these suspects. This is a good reminder for people to consider buying locked mailboxes, and to never leave valuables in your vehicle."
Police continue to investigate this fraud case and notify victims. Police said three people were arrested at the condo on unrelated warrants, and a fourth person was arrested after admitting to the theft of the signs. Detectives are still working to arrest at least one more person.
