BELLEVUE, Wash. – Drivers once again avoided 520 in the first expected “workday” commute after tolling began on the floating bridge last week.
Travel times across I-90 were roughly double that of 520 during the evening commute, and traffic increased on I-5 and I-405 as well. However, WSDOT admitted late Tuesday were lighter than normal region wide.
Metro said it had received anecdotal information that bus ridership was up on Tuesday, however it could not provide hard numbers.
“It was busier and faster,” said Chris Anderson, a commuter who uses Route 555 between Seattle and Bellevue. “One day’s worth of evidence. We’ll see how it plays out over two, three weeks, but day one very light.”
