KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii -- A Bellevue man accused of beating his girlfriend to death at a Hawaii resort has pleaded guilty.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports prosecutors say 46-year-old Philip Howard Zimmerman pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder, kidnapping and criminal property damage.
Zimmerman and 44-year-old Susan Brockert, both from Bellevue, were vacationing at The Fairmont Orchid in South Kohala on the Big Island when she was killed last year. A housekeeper testified at Zimmerman's preliminary hearing that he saw Zimmerman hit Brockert with a large piece of granite from the room's coffee table.
Prosecutors say Zimmerman agreed to plead guilty in return for prosecutors not seeking an enhanced sentence of life without the possibility of parole. He still could face life with parole.
Sentencing has been set for Sept. 27.
