In these lean economic times, businesses are doing more with less. In many cases workers who haven't been laid off are taking on added responsibilities to make sure they keep their jobs.

But the extra work piled on a smaller staff may mean added stress on the job.

Occupational therapist Dr. Karen Jacobs says  the first key to avoiding a workplace meltdown is to prioritize.

"Meet with your boss and say, I'd like to set priorities for myself. I'd like to talk about my performance. I'd like to set goals."

Also know when to turn it off.  Jacobs says, "I think for all of us to stay healthy we need to set better limits on what things we do at work and what things we take home."

Experts say to maximize results at work, minimize distractions. Also take breaks to stretch or walk around every half hour or so.

A calming environment is helpful, like looking at a picture you like or having a plant nearby.

Looking forward to activities outside of work can also help beat the burnout and remember to get a good night's sleep.

One other thing that may help - a weekly tech-free day. Meaning no cell phones, emails, or internet - if you can.
