SEATTLE -- It's Boeing's largest commercial airplane order ever, as measured by both the number of planes and by the published dollar value.

Lion Air, a large private carrier in Indonesia, ordered a total of 230 airplanes. That includes 201 of the Boeing 737 "MAX"  with more fuel efficient engines, and and 29 current  "Next Generation" models for extended range 737-900s. The order was announced Thursday by the White House, as part of President Barack Obama's trip to Bali, Indonesia.

The airplanes have a list price of $21.7 billion.   But most carriers receive discounts.  Lion Air has options for 150 more, valued at another $14 billion. The deal's total potential value is $35 billion.

Officially, Boeing says these are commitments for orders, as contracts are not yet signed.

Following the Lion air commitment, the 737-Max received the first order from a leasing company, Avaition Capital Group based in New Port Beach, California.  AGC is taking 35 737 Max airplanes and 20 Next Generation 787-800s.   Boeing is now has over 700 commitments for the 737-Max.

All this adds to Boeing's 737 future.  The  backlog which officially stands at 2,191 jets and does not include any commitments for the Max.

Right now, Boeing is already starting to ramp up to building a record 42 737s a month.  The Renton assembly line is still building 31.5 planes a month, but in recent weeks the wing line started ramping up to 35 airplanes per month, eventually boeing will hit 42 a month in early 2014.

To get there, Boeing has teams in place to make building the jet more efficient.

Seems pixelater and anticap are fighting like cats and dogs! Both are right, both are wrong. The problem with the Occupy crowd is that they need to understand if they want to change the corporate environment, they need to work within the system. This means DON'T cause problems for those who are simply trying to make a decent living, by holding your protest in the middle of the city. But, maybe go out and buy voting stock in those companies and work to change it from the inside. Example: Boeing, most people don't realize that over 70% of the stock is not held by the Board of Directors, but by mutual funds and small investors. If you want to change Boeing, work to get those people on your side.

@pixelater Stand by whatever you like pix, I applaud your success. You should know, however, that to criticize a system or want to change it does not constitute "whining", nor does it mean that someone is always looking for a handout or isn't willing to put out an honest effort. Too often on this forum the criticisms of the Occupiers are just way too over the top and demonstrate a complete ignorance of what is at stake. I am sympathetic to some of the issues they are addressing, even if the message has become too diluted with everyone's cause of the day. For the others who criticize those who question the whole premise of corporate America, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon not understanding it”..sinclair lewis .

anticap, I stand by my original assessment of your personality. I am not a corporate yes man I am a hard charging, hard working individual and business owner for 30 years. I have the best employees around from young people right out of school to people approaching retirement, many of which started at the bottom and have worked their way into upper management. Many of the people I have employed have left my company to move on and up in other companies or started their own companies (there are only so many positions at the top) and I have continued to support them and applaud their success. I promote from within my company and have seen many individuals such as you, unhappy with their position in life that are unable or unwilling to make the effort to achieve what they want, all the while whinning how unfair it all is.

Oh Pixelater, just because you continually insult people without name calling makes you so morally superior to everyone else, right? But a jerk is still a jerk. Your assumptions about who people are are just asinine. You're one of the frustrated old corporate yes men that believes in a way of life that is eroding underneath you and you just can't understand why. I'm not anti markets, I'm anti corporate crony capitalism which is the brand we have now and has nothing to do with "free markets" as many deluded souls here think. Just because I am forced to work in this corrupt system doesn't mean I don't want to change it. I can see a lot of projection from you concerning who I am. Maybe consider getting some help for that..

@anticap, if you had kids older than me you would be dead. The fact that your posts always resort to name calling tells me that you are an unhappy, self loathing, under performing individual. You want to blame everyone else for your lack of success in your life. You state you have a successful career yet you don't believe in capitalism. Where do you think your paycheck comes from, the tooth fairy? Your idea of success is probably working in a mediocre position for the same company your whole life. Your anger most likely stems from the fact that you believe you are worth more but your boss or company owner doesn’t see it that way. You feel you have put in your time now you deserve the brass ring. Most likely you don’t have the skills, ambition or drive to excel and you blame others. The fact that you don’t hang out with the occupiers is also telling, you’ll give them lip service support but can’t make a commitment. Cheer up, everyone doesn’t hate you, they just don’t see you.

That Obama no doubt took the credit for all of this since he made the announcement. See with him thats all he as to do is make the announcement. That means he's "involved". LOL What a piece of work he is.

@daveinmerlin and @pixelater I happen to have a great career and have kids older than you punks, so go off and worship at the altar of Boeing, war profiteer extraordinaire. I don't hang out with the Occupiers either. See how stupid and flat out wrong you can be about those you don't know. It's called bigotry, practiced most often by Repubs.

This is odd, Obama out making money for the US instead of giving it away. Of course, all his "green energy" companies have failed miserably so he's had to (gasp!) sell petroleum-burning aircraft. Maybe he'll see the light?

eastsiderocks, Come on, do you really think Obama had anything to do with this? To bad it will mean more jobs in Right to work states. We can thank IAM for the new jobs in So. Carolina, etc.

Good job Obama and Boeing. Obama needs to stop by China before coming back. Maybe he can top that deal with a 500 order.

Good for them ! Keep bringing in the business and create jobs for positive go getter type, non complainer, industrious people... Leave the slack jaws to wallow in their depression and cynicism...
