SEATTLE - In 1999, Seattle's old Rainier Brewery quit brewing beer. The huge brewery became other things. For much of the decade it was used by Tully's Coffee.
As of Thursday, the brewery is back.
OK - it's not a full fledged operation, but Rick Hewitt of the Emerald City Beer company has kept his promise to start brewing again in the old Rainier plant. Dottie Seatte Lager is the new company's flagship brew and the brew pub called the Beer Lab in the old Rainier plant is perhaps more symbolic than anything.
But, it's beer. And it's back.
Emerald City Beer's opening is Saturday, Sept 25, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
