NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are mixed as investors remain wary about the strength of the economic recovery and mounting debt in Europe.
The market's major indexes are holding to a tight range and are nearly unchanged at midday Monday.
Concerns are growing that European countries including Greece, Portugal and Spain might not be able to handle their mounting debt.
Traders are also looking for fresh evidence of economic growth. Toymaker Hasbro Inc. and drugstore chain CVS Caremark Corp. are higher after their profits topped analysts' estimates.
In midday trading, the Dow Jones industrial average is down 16 at 9,996. The Standard & Poor's 500 index is up 2 at 1,068, while the Nasdaq composite index is up 6 at 2,147.
