NEW YORK (AP) — Stock futures are pointing to a modestly higher opening as new reports on unemployment and durable goods orders are expected to show the economy is continuing its recovery.
Overseas markets rose.
Investors are expecting the new data Thursday to show the economy is rebounding, a day after a disappointing report on sales of new homes in November renewed caution about the speed of the recovery.
The U.S. market will close early Thursday and be closed Friday for the Christmas holiday.
Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 21, or 0.2 percent, at 10,425. Standard & Poor's 500 index futures are up 3.80, or 0.3 percent, at 1,119.40, while Nasdaq 100 index futures are up 2.75, or 0.2 percent, at 1,855.00.
