HONOLULU (AP) — Managers of the nation's largest single conservation area are offering up to 12 teachers and community leaders an opportunity to spend a week in the pristine reserve north of Hawaii.

The Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument said in a statement Thursday that the traveling workshop is designed to get people involved in taking care of the environment.

The group is due to spend three days on Oahu next June learning about the archipelago northwest of the main Hawaiian islands. It's then scheduled to go to Midway Atoll, about 1,250 miles north of Honolulu, for seven days.

U.S. and international applicants are welcome.

The monument is home to 7,000 marine species, a quarter of which are found only in Hawaii.
