Barclays, Oracle, Idenix are big movers

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE

Barclays PLC, down $1.15 at $19.13

The British bank said its head of investment banking will take over as CEO from John Varley, who guided Barclays through the credit crisis.

Biovail Corp., up $2.29 at $26.25

The drug maker's potential merger partner, Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, reported that a combination of the companies would save $300 million, partly through slashing 1,100 jobs, or 25 percent of the combined work force.

Lincoln National Corp., down $1.18 at $24.91

The Treasury Department will auction 13.05 million warrants it had received from insurance company during the financial crisis.

NASDAQ

Oracle Corp., up $1.34 to $24.26

The database software maker hired former Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO Mark Hurd as co-president a month after he resigned from HP.

Idenix Pharmaceuticals Inc., down $2.81 at $3.18

The biopharmaceutical said the FDA has placed testing of two potential Hepatitis C drugs on hold because of safety concerns.

Capella Education Co., down $3.88 to $61.40

A BMO analyst expects more limited stock gains for the higher education provider and cut his price forecast by nearly 25 percent.

Casey's General Stores Inc., up $3.86 to $42.76

The Iowa company rejected the latest takeover bid from Canada's Couche-Tard as too low, and said it will begin talks with another suitor.

Somaxon Pharmaceuticals Inc., up 16 cents to $3.99

The pharmaceutical company launched its new insomnia drug Silenor, after the FDA finally approved it in March following years of delays.
