Puyallup police said they have made an arrested in the attempted sexual assault from Tuesday night.
Puyallup Police tweeted that a 32-year-old was arrested at his residence. The suspect will be booked into the Pierce County Jail for felony attempted sexual assault. Detectives were continuing to investigate the case.
Tips from citizens and surveillance images from the Puyallup Wal-Mart helped police make an arrest within 24 hours of the assault Tuesday night.
A 22-year-old woman said she was walking down the street around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 2900 block of 5th Street Southeast when a stranger grabbed her. The woman, who did not want to be identified, said the man started up a brief conversation before he threw her up against a fence and touched her inappropriately.
Aiming for his groin, she told KING 5 News she kicked him and ran away to a Wal-Mart where she asked for help.
Officers and a K-9 couldn’t find the man. During the investigation, they learned a man matching the description was in the same Wal-Mart before the alleged assault and was seen on video surveillance.
The suspect is described as white, in his 30s, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and 180 pounds. He had stained or possibly decaying front teeth. He also had a distinctive circular tattoo around his bellybutton and another tattoo on his right bicep. He wore a red baseball cap, baggy blue jeans and no shirt.
The victim says the suspect was apparently fidgeting with a lighter in the Wal-Mart and when he approached her on the street.
The woman also said the man called her a little girl and said she should be careful being out alone because she might get raped. She said she'll never walk alone again and wants to get a license to carry a gun.
Anyone with more information about the suspect or the case is asked to call the Puyallup Police Department Tip Line at 253-770-3343.
