LEGALIZING MARIJUANA-THE BRAND

SEATTLE — It was Jamen Shively's moment, and his smile was beatific. Sitting next to the former president of Mexico and surrounded by men in nice suits, the former Microsoft manager told a crowd of reporters and supporters who packed into a swanky conference room last month that they were witnessing a unique moment in history: the creation of the first national commercial brand of marijuana. Internal company documents obtained by The Associated Press tell a different story. A draft contract dated the same day as the news conference — May 30 — appears to lay out, in writing, a federal conspiracy to distribute marijuana. Nothing about Shively's business would appear to shield him or others involved from federal prosecution, according to several former federal prosecutors contacted by AP. By Gene Johnson. AP Photos.

FRANCE-AIR SHOW

LE BOURGET, France — Airbus and Boeing won pledges for big purchases of their lucrative long-haul wide-body jets at the Paris Air Show Monday, raising hopes that demand is recovering following the worldwide recession. The global aviation event at Le Bourget airfield north of Paris is once again playing host to the rivalry between U.S.-based Boeing and France-based Airbus. After several years of success for their smaller models, the world's leading plane makers are hoping to get orders for the bigger, more expensive long-haul jets. By Lori Hinnant.
