EAST WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — The Federal Aviation Administration has approved a $30 million project to lengthen the runway at Pangborn Memorial Airport in East Wenatchee.
The Wenatchee World reports (http://bit.ly/12aYavm ) federal financing will pay up to $27 million and the rest will come from the ports of Chelan and Douglas counties, which jointly own the airport.
The project will extend the 5,700-foot runway to 7,000 feet.
Port officials hope the expansion will attract a second airline to schedule regional flights. Alaska Airlines currently operates the only scheduled flights at Pangborn, daily service to Sea-Tac Airport.
