TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The 927th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa has a new commander.
Col. Douglas J. Schwartz says he has "big shoes to fill," something he doesn't take lightly. He took the helm of the 927th Air Refueling Wing at the base during Saturday's change of command ceremony. The 56-year-old Indiana native takes over for Col. David Pavey and most recently served at the Fourth Air Force's Air Reserve Command at March Air Reserve Base in California.
The Tampa Bay Times reports (http://bit.ly/X2CUUS ) the 927th works with MacDill's host unit, the 6th Air Mobility Wing. Pilots and crews for both fly and share the 16 KC-135 stratotankers aerial refueling jets.
More than 800 personnel are assigned to the 927th.
