BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) — The University of Charleston is moving forward with plans to replace Mountain State University's operations in Beckley with a four-year satellite campus.
The private Charleston-based school also has expressed interest in creating a satellite campus at the Martinsburg Mall after Mountain State closes in December.
But UC president Ed Welch tells The Register-Herald (http://bit.ly/SJavRp ) that the university doesn't plan to take over Mountain State's centers in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Florida. The university will continue distance education for these students.
The university's plans must be approved by the Higher Learning Commission. Welch says he expects a decision in December.
The commission revoked Mountain State's accreditation in June.
